Special Community Projects

New Iberia District Probation and Parole has as its mission to provide for control of adjudicated offenders through enforcement of laws and management of programs designed to insure the safety of the public, staff, and offenders and reintegrate offenders into society.  New Iberia District Officers work jointly with local, state and federal law enforcement agencies as well as numerous community service agencies to provide safer communities and alternatives to incarceration.  Special projects include Inmate Welfare Fund, warrant roundups, curfew checks and Halloween events targeted at sex offenders.

Additionally, our office provides referrals for its offenders, including job and community resource fairs, drug treatment, adult education programs, and housing.  The New Iberia District office also offers sex offender treatment, which requires a fee.  New Iberia District participates in the job fairs held at the University of Louisiana.  New Iberia District partners with local facilities such as Keys For Sober Living, the Louisiana Workforce Commission, Iberia Homeless Shelter, Lafayette Psychology Center and Aten Counseling Center, along with various other providers to offer an extension of immediate resources available to those under supervision.  In addition, New Iberia District is a United Way Pacesetter.

NID holds an annual community conversation group that includes local, parish, and state service provider groups along with local law enforcement agencies.  This group discusses solutions to address the problems that perpetuate poverty and to crime.  The group seeks to empower the community to be part of the solution to break the cycle of poverty and crime.
