Lafayette District supervises approximately 4,200 cases and conducts approximately 2100 investigations per year. We are responsible for supervising approximately 150 sex offenders, 600 violent offenders, and 125 Drug Court cases.

Lafayette District has four officers devoted to the supervision of sex offenders on a full-time basis. These officers are doing an excellent job with supervision and work closely with local law enforcement to render assistance whenever needed. We have two major providers of sex offender treatment within our district: Professional Academy and Christophe and Associates. Professional Academy meets twice a month at LFD and Christophe and Associates meets once a month in Abbeville. Our sheriffs for all three parishes are completing all of the requirements for registration and notification. At the 2014 P&P Conference, Lafayette District received the Pace Setters award for the second year in a row, given by Christophe Counseling and Associates for excellence in supervision of sex offenders.

The 15th Judicial District Drug Court continues its operation in Lafayette Parish with the Honorable Jules D. Edwards presiding. LFD supplies one officer to the program, who actively participates with the Drug Court staff by attending weekly review hearings, staffing sessions and keeping the staff aware of P&P policy and procedures. Our officer is a tremendous asset to the Drug Court Program and the local court, assisting in the rehabilitation of Drug Court Participants. The Drug Court Program has, on average, 125 offenders enrolled and graduation is held twice a year.

The Community Resources Treatment Court, also known as the Lafayette Mental Health Court, is a program administered by the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office with the Honorable Jules Edwards presiding. The Court operates similarly to Drug Court and primarily focuses on pre-adjudicated offenders. Plans are to gradually expand the Court to include offenders placed on probation.

As part of our reentry initiatives, Probation Orientation Meetings are held on a monthly basis at the District Office. In an informal setting, a probation officer and the sentencing judge explain the conditions/requirements and answer questions. The aim is to assist the offender in understanding what is required and in successfully completing probation.

LFD frequently participates in warrant sweeps and other joint ventures with local law enforcement and assists as needed during emergency situations. We continue to attend the weekly COMPSTAT meeting at Lafayette Police Department in an effort to reduce crime in our area.
