Ville Platte

From I-49 Opelousas, exit Ville Platte US Highway 167. Proceed west to Ville Platte, approximately 16 miles. When you get into Ville Platte you will see B&S Grocery on the left and the Probation & Parole office will be on the right, next to Our Savior’s Church.

From Highway 10 Oakdale, proceed east to Ville Platte on US Highway 167, approximately 29 miles. Enter on West Main Street through the City of Ville Platte until you are on the east side of the city. You will see Ville Platte Medical Center on the right. Continue east and the Probation & Parole office will be on the left, next to Our Savior’s Church.

From Highway 29 Eunice, enter Ville Platte on South Chataignier Street, turn right on East Main Street. You will see Ville Platte Medical Center on the right. Continue East and Probation & Parole will be on the left next to Our Savior’s Church.

From I-49 Alexandria, exit at Turkey Creek/Meeker (US Highway 167) to Ville Platte. Take a right onto US Highway 167 east and enter Ville Platte on West Main Street through the City of Ville Platte until you are on the East Side of the city. You will see Ville Platte Medical Center on the right. Continue east and the Probation & Parole office will be on the left, next to Our Savior’s Church.

P&P officers supervise approximately 2,550 offenders, of which 80 are sexual and/or violent offenders, for the parishes of Allen, Evangeline, and St. Landry.

VPD staff remains involved in reentry initiatives. We have developed relationships with several providers of services for offenders. Staff members assist Allen Correctional Center with its resource fair by participating semi-annually and partnering with various faith-based and community based providers. We continue to work to develop additional resources that will assist offenders with a successful reentry. Currently, the district is involved with Regional Criminal Justice quarterly meetings for the South Central Region.

In addition, Ville Platte District is a partner with the St. Landry Drug Court Program known as CHANGES. The program involves the St. Landry Parish District Attorney’s Office, the 27th Judicial District Court, and Ville Platte District Office. Eligible offenders are taught life skills, job readiness like assistance earning GED’s and putting job resumes together, attend group sessions to deal with drug addiction, and receive life skills such as parenting classes. The program promotes a sustained and successful reentry into the community, with emphasis on sobriety and employment.

Ville Platte District hosts an annual Law Enforcement Torch Run in May of each year with 100 percent staff participation. Money is raised throughout the year by offering the staff “Jean Day” options each week for a $1.00 donation. On Torch Run day, the staff participates in the run as well as cooking and delivering lunch orders and collecting donations throughout the community. Staff representatives travel to Baton Rouge for the official Torch Run ceremony which kicks off the Special Olympic Games.

Back to School Summits held in Evangeline, St. Landry, and St. Martin Parishes, target 100 percent of all eighth grade students attending public schools (approximately 2,600 students) to enjoy a day filled with speeches and activities to motivate them to do well in school and teach them to make good decisions in life. The lead entity for the Summits is the Southern University Agricultural Research and Extension Center’s Southwest Center for Rural Initiatives. Ville Platte District Probation and Parole Office, along with other agencies, participate in the event by displaying interactive educational booths. The students are allowed to visit the different booths and ask questions regarding each agency. Ville Platte District’s theme promotes “Officers not Offenders.”

Ville Platte District Office, along with local law enforcement agencies, victims of domestic violence and their families, and the community at large participates in the annual “Take Back the Night” rally that is sponsored by the St. Landry-Evangeline Sexual Assault Center. The focus of the rally is to raise community awareness of the prevalence of domestic violence and the impact it has on the community at large. The rally begins with a victim march led by organized groups, such as Girl Scouts, and ends with a candlelight vigil for a moment of reflection. The rally is held in Evangeline Parish during the month of April and in St. Landry Parish during the month of October.
